Mindfulness based therapy differs from most forms of talk therapy in a number of significant ways. When working with issues we will always be returning to how they are experienced in and effect the present moment rather than searching for why. This is done through awareness of the body, its feelings and feeling tones, and the content and states of mind that arise. These are used to explore the nature of the mind and suffering, through which you will deepen your ability to be present in yourself and to yourself. In this self-acceptance you creatively integrate what you previously experienced as pain, becoming more whole.
Mindfulness therapy work can facilitate insight into past conditioning and how this is held and appears in the present. The therapeutic work can open the possibility of letting go of past patterns and allowing a more creative and flexible approach to your life and its challenges and opportunities. This can help with all kinds of problems, including depression, anxiety, self-esteem, relationship difficulties and many others.
This approach to therapy is being ever increasingly validated by ongoing research in the realm of neuroscience, the study of how the brain works and it’s capacities for change and development. It is also a non-directive approach, meaning as your therapist I will not presume to tell you what is right for you or what you should do. Rather I will hold, without judgement, a compassionate space of accepting all of who you are and experience as you seek your own inner wisdom and clarity.
I offer therapy in an environment of confidentiality, respect, acceptance, warmth, empathy and supportive challenge and work from the premise that at our core we are all healthy.
Central to this work is the acknowledgment of the ‘Brilliant Sanity’ that lies at the core of each of us. This force for wellbeing may be obscured by distress and challenges but is the ‘core’ of our being. Mindfulness Psychotherapy develops our capacity for awareness within a compassionate relationship. Openness to our experience in mind, body and spirit frees the energy from the core and moves us towards healing.
